Most budgeting apps link to your bank. Usually that means handing your online-banking login to a data aggregator, or granting it ongoing access, so a company you've never dealt with can keep pulling your transactions in the background. SmartSpend AI takes a different route: it reads the statements your bank and card already send you. You decide exactly what it sees, one statement at a time, and nothing ever logs in to your accounts — so there's no stored banking password and no standing connection to worry about.
Reading a statement is only useful if the result is right. So every statement is checked against its own printed totals — opening balance, purchases, payments, closing balance — before a single transaction is saved. When the numbers don't reconcile, it reads the statement again, carefully, instead of guessing.
From there it does the arithmetic most people never get to: what's genuinely safe to spend over the next month once paycheques and bills land in the order they really do, whether you're getting ahead month to month, and which recurring charges are quietly adding up.
SmartSpend AI is built by Jonathan Weyermann, a full-stack developer in Alberta who has been building for the web since 2014. It is in private testing now; join the waitlist to hear when it opens up.
